Create your first release

Group songs into a release, set a planned date, and optionally start a promotional campaign alongside it in the same step.

A release in SongPilot is the plan around putting music out: which songs, when, and what promotion runs alongside. It is where a campaign hangs, and it is worth creating once you have the songs in your library.

Create it

Open Releases and start a new one. The panel is titled Create New Release and asks for:

  • Release Title — the only required field. The create button stays disabled until you fill it in.
  • Release Type — single, EP, or album.
  • Description — a short summary of the release.
  • Planned Release Date — the date you are working towards.
  • Genre — free text, with examples like Pop, Rock or Electronic.

If you came from a song or album, it arrives Pre-selected, and the description is filled in for you along the lines of “Single release featuring …” or ”… release with 5 tracks”. You can edit that.

Add a campaign in the same step

Create promotional campaign turns on a second block:

  • Campaign Title — left blank it is Auto-generated from release, producing something like “Midnight Release Campaign”.
  • Campaign Type
  • Campaign Start and Campaign End

With it ticked the button reads Create Release & Campaign, and a toast confirms Release and Campaign Created. Without it, the button is just Create Release.

Doing both at once saves relinking them later, so tick it unless you know the release needs no promotion.

What a release is not, yet

A release is a plan and a home for the campaign around it. It is not a delivery to stores: the Distribution page describes distribution as Actively in Development under the heading Distribution is Coming to SongPilot.

So keep using whatever distributor you use today, and treat the release in SongPilot as the thing that organizes the work around it.

What to do next

With a release in place you can plan social content against it, and generate artwork for the songs it contains. If you have not filled in the artist profile yet, do that first: it is what the agents read before writing anything about the release.
