A member in SongPilot is a person connected to your artist: a performer, a writer, a manager, anyone whose likeness or credits matter. Members are separate from user accounts, and the distinction trips people up, so it is worth getting straight before you start.
Create the member
Open Members. On an empty workspace you will see No members yet and a button to Add First Member; otherwise use Add Member.
The Add New Member panel asks for:
- Name — required. Until you fill it in, Add Member stays greyed out and the panel reads Name the member to continue.
- Role — free text, with examples like Lead Vocalist or Guitarist. Write whatever describes the person; it is not a fixed list.
- Bio — a short description.
- IPI / CAE — nine to eleven digits. This is the writer/publisher ID performing rights organizations (ASCAP, BMI, PRS, SOCAN and others) use for this person; you can find it in their PRO account.
- Email — optional here, and not the same as giving them a login.
Only the name is strictly required, so you can add everyone quickly and fill in detail later.
Understand members against accounts
Creating a member does not create a login. You can tell them apart on the Members page: a member without one has a Create Account button on their card next to Edit, and a member who already has one does not.
To give someone access, use Create Account on their card and supply an email address. They get a user account tied to that member.
Most acts have more members than accounts, and that is normal. A session player or a co-writer usually needs credits and a likeness on file, not a seat in the workspace.
Record the IPI early
The IPI / CAE field is the identifier performing rights organizations use for a writer. It is tedious to chase later, when you are trying to register a work and someone is on tour.
It expects nine to eleven digits, and shows IPI must be 9–11 digits under the field when what you typed does not match. If you see that, check you have not pasted the number with spaces or a dash.
What to do next
Once members exist, upload likeness photos for each person who will appear in generated imagery. That is the single highest-value thing you can do for image and video quality, and it is covered in its own article.
